The abducted father of Joshua Dariye, a former governor of Plateau State, has been released.
The police confirmed his release on Friday in a telephone interview with OUR REPORTER in Jos.
According to the police spokesperson in Plateau State, Abuh Emmanuel, four persons were arrested in connection with the abduction.
Mr. Dariye’s father was kidnapped last Saturday night at his village in Mushere, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau state. Police had said the victim was abducted by nine suspects.
Mr. Abuh said Mr. Dariye’s dad has been reunited with his family.“Police has formally handed over the man to his son, Sen. Joshua Dariye, here in Jos,” he said. “As I speak with you he is at the Dariye residence in Jos.”
Asked if ransom was paid before the freedom of Mr. Dariye’s father, the police officer said he was not aware of one.
“I believe his release was due to frantic efforts by the police and concerned members of the public,” he said.
The abductors allegedly demanded a ransom of $10 million through a letter to the family.
