Gunmen kidnap ex-gov Dariye’s father

Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have kidnapped Pa Dariye Defwan, the 87-year-old father of a former governor of Plateau State, Chief Joshua Dariye.
A police source said the gunmen, numbering about nine, stormed the home of the octogenarian in the Mushere area of Bokkos, in the Bokkos Local Government Area at about 7.30pm on Saturday.
They were said to have shot sporadically and in the confusion, whisked away their victim on a motorcycle and headed towards Wambia in the neighbouring Nasarawa State.
A family source told our correspondent that the kidnappers had demanded $10, 000 as ransom.
The former governor, Dariye, who is also the Senator representing Plateau Central Zone, was said to be making effort to rescue his father.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Emmanuel Abuh, confirmed the incident.
He added that the police were on the trail of the kidnappers.
He said spent bullet shells were picked up by investigators to ascertain the calibre of weapon used in the operation.
Abuh said, “We have yet to know the motive behind the kidnap.
“In investigations are, however, ongoing to determine the reasons behind the abduction of the old man.”
