NLC resolves to hold rescheduled elections March 12

The Nigeria Labour Congress said on Wednesday that factions in the crisis that led to the disruption of elections into its National Executive Council last week have resolved to allow an amicable resolution of the crisis.
Consequently, the rescheduled elections have been slated to hold on Thursday, March 12 at the Eagles Square in Abuja.
At the end of NEC meeting to review the circumstances that led to the crisis, leaders of the warring factions gave their words that they and their supporters would all work together to make the rescheduled poll succeed.
The Congress said the former Credentials Committee, which was largely blamed for the crisis, was dissolved and a new membership of the committee reconstituted.

Only the Chairman of the former Committee, Nasir Fage, who is the President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, was retained, to work with other newly co-opted members.
At the end of the 11th National Delegates Conference of the Congress last week, angry supporters of one of the candidates marched on the election venue to cart away and destroy ballot boxes and other materials, forcing proceedings to a halt.
The delegates had accused the Credentials Committee of decisions they considered “manipulative and fraudulent”, capable of conferring undue electoral advantage on some candidates over their opponents.
In the aftermath of the crisis, the NLC had expressed regrets at the outcome of the exercise, which it blamed on a “printing error” spotted on some ballot papers used by the Credentials Committee for the election.
Some of the ballot papers had duplications in the serial numbers and names of some candidates.
